Exterior Description And Setting

This house has been demolished leaving only a two-storey range of outbuildings of no architectural interest. Described in the first survey in 1970 as 'a two-storey house with lined rendered walls and hipped slated roof over a moulded eaves cornice. There are rusticated quoins at extremities of building and at corners of a central bay broken forward and containing the entrance recessed in a semi-circular headed opening; the door is flanked by channelled pilasters, there are g.b. in the fanlight. A later square porch is of poor design. All windows are sashed with full g.b. on front elevation, there is a triple window over the entrance. Run down. A rear extension is lighted by plain sashed windows.'

Historical Information

This was a two storey Georgian house with a semi-circular headed entrance, already in a run-down condition when first surveyed in 1970. It appeared on the OS map of 1832. Demolished in 1970s or 1980s. References - Primary 1. OS Map 1832, Co Antrim 40. 2. Ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland: Parishes of County Antrim X, Vol 26 (Belfast, 1994), p 53 (the reference to the house occupied by Archibald Barklie near the bleach green and church, and 'upwards of 20 years built', presumably relates to Inver House.
