Exterior Description And Setting

Building marked on Ordnance Survey map as: Greystone Hall special School. Two storey school in two separate wings with adjacent headmaster’s house. Wing nearest Greystone Road T shaped, and consisting of red brick gables, rendered first floor and yellow rustic brick ground floor. Second block perpendicular, in red brick, with flat roof and more rigorous treatment of fenestration. Headmaster’s house, a composition of red brick and render planes with a tall stair window. Around the grounds are plinths and brick arches supporting finials and other carved architectural features presumably from the former Greystone Hall.

Historical Information

Built in the mid 1950s on the site of the former Greystone Hall. The hall is mentioned in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of 1833-35, as ‘a large brick house, commenced in 1831 and finished in 1833’. Architect of the school was N E Campbell. There have been some small renovations and extensions to the buildings.
